Among the hallmarks of the Walther Center in Global Palliative Care & Supportive Oncology, formerly the Pain & Policy Studies Group, is our collection of practical resources that we make available and easily accessible for all. These Resources include some of our original pieces of work, collections from our collaborative efforts, or other materials that are especially relevant across multiple domains influencing and affecting palliative care and supportive oncology.
Background
The global work of the Walther Center is connected to and rooted in the legacy of the PPSG (including some core members) The Center continues and broadens this international impact through the intersection and collaboration “upstream” with multilateral and regional organizations as well as directly with individual countries regarding development and implementation of policies, resources, and guidelines that advance palliative care locally, regionally and globally. These resources have a “trickle down” effect to impact millions of patients and caregivers in need of palliative care and supportive oncology services in more than 35 countries where we have worked….and beyond.
Selected Resources
The selected resources below capture many of the domains and scope of the Center’s broadened efforts as well foundational work through the legacy of the Pain & Policy Studies Group (1996-2018) in contributing to international, regional and U.S. policies, regulations, model laws and guidance documents.
Prime examples of such work include collaborating with the United Nations Office on Drug and Crime (UNODC) on various guidance documents, the International Narcotics Control Board including analyzing and publishing essential medicines consumption data for every country in the world (see other section on the Walther site, and contributing to the World Drug Report, among other global efforts.
This year, in particular, we are pleased to highlight that the Walther Center contributed to the World Drug Report, which for the first time included a designated section on Access to Controlled Medicines for Pain Management, highlighting barriers to and global disparities in access and availability to essential controlled medicines for pain and palliative care.
